How and Why It Works

The Power-Plate produces a vibration through which energy is transferred from the platform to the body. This mechanical stimulus produces a stretch reflex which results in muscles vigorously contracting 30 to 50 times per second.

Advanced Vibration Technology increases the production of regenerative and repair hormones, improves blood circulation, strengthens bone tissue, improves lymph drainage and increases basal metabolic rate. All this results in more strength, more speed, more stamina, rapid recovery of muscles and tissues, increased flexibility, mobility and co-ordination, improved collagen production and fat reduction.

Vibration Training On The Power Plate Is Used To Substantially:

l Improve muscle strength, flexibility and range of motion

l Enhance critical blood flow through the body

l Accelerate weight loss and defeat cellulite

l Expedite the recovery and regeneration of damaged tissue

l Enhance general wellness and quality of life

Health & Fitness

The Power-Plate is a resistance machine providing an outcome similar to and more beneficial than working out with free weights or weight-- bearing equipment. Power Plate training requires only 1/3 the amount of time required for conventional training. Power-Plate is able to achieve these results through advanced acceleration of the muscular system. Traditional resistance training methods provide resistance on a single linear axis whereas the Power Plate’s resistance effects occur on multiple axes stimulating the entire body of fibers with a given muscle group.

Anti-age Longevity

The Power-Plate contributes to a more youthful feeling due to an increase in oxygenation, increased secretion of serotonin (the happiness hormone), mental stimulation and improved basic brain functions (such as better concentration). It also causes a dramatic spike in human Growth Hormone (HGH), key to the repair and regeneration of tissues. By decreasing cortisol levels the Power-Plate also helps eliminate the effects of stress making the Power Plate a great tool for relaxation.

Sport Performance

Both top athletes and every sport enthusiasts are always looking for better ways to train their body and get the competitive edge. Advanced Vibration Technology is scientifically calibrated to dramatically enhance sports training as well as supplemental and an alternative form of training. Within seconds, range of motion and stability are instantly increased, perfect for warming up before training.

Medical Rehabilitation The Power Plate’s Advanced Vibration Technology is widely used in the medical field for the prevention and treatment of illness and injuries. It allows people with debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and stroke victims to yield the benefits of exercise while working within their personal limitations.

Technology: Scientific Support
A growing body of scientific research demonstrates how the technology behind the Power-Plate® machines provides widespread therapeutic applications and health benefits. Listed below are just a few of the numerous studies detailing positive results from using Power-Plate® machines as part of your exercise regime.

Published Power Plate® Studies
Acute Effects of Whole Body Vibration on Muscle Activity, Strength, and Power

The result of this study was that an increased jump height can be recorded immediately after the vibration treatment compared to the sham (no vibration) treatment. Although not significant, subjects’ peak force, jump height and peak power decreased less after vibration compared to sham immediately, 5 minutes and 15 minutes post treatment. This means that subjects performed at a higher level after the vibration treatment.

The Feasibility of Whole Body Vibration in Institutionalized Elderly

This study shows that in nursing home residents with limited functional dependency, six weeks of static Power Plate training is feasible, and beneficial for balance and mobility.

Whole Body Vibration Induced Increase in Leg Muscle Activity During Different Squat Exercises
Effects of Whole Body Vibration Training on Postural Control in Older Individuals

This study shows that 12 months of Power Plate training with older individuals leads to a reduced fall frequency, most notably in the most challenging condition (with eyes closed on a moving platform).

Impact of Whole-Body Vibration Training Versus Fitness Training on Muscle Strength and Muscle Mass in Older Men

This study shows that 12 months Power Plate training with community-dwelling older men increased upper leg muscle strength and muscle mass. Being able to reverse the age-related loss in skeletal muscle mass, referred to as sarcopenia and generally considered to be a major public health concern in older individuals, may contribute in reducing the risk of contracting several age-related chronic disorders or even to prevent them (e.g. osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, arthritis).

Effect of Knee Flexion Angle on Neuromuscular Responses to Whole Body Vibration

In this study done by researcher from NASA they found positive neuromuscular responses of leg muscles during short periods of WBV.

Neuromuscular Responses to Two Whole Body Vibration Modalities During Dynamic Squats

This study done by NASA suggest that WBV enhances muscle activation in the lower- and upper-leg during dynamic squats.

Comparing the Effects of Different Whole Body Vibration Intensities on Vertical Jump Performance

The purpose of this study was to determine which Power Plate intensity has the greatest effect on height of a vertical jump and the duration of that affect, if any exists. Results show that one 45 seconds bout of Power Plate at 2.94g (40 Hz, 2-4 mm) seems to be the most effective stimulus for this female population, which did not include elite athletes. Males may require a greater duration or volume of vibration exposure to elicit greater effects.

The Effects of 4 Different Acute Whole Body Vibration Exposures upon Indicies of Counter Movement Vertical Jump Performance

This study shows that the use of an intermittent vibration protocol at a frequency of 50 Hz appears to be more effective than continuous vibration at a lower frequency of 30 Hz at enhancing acute indices of vertical jump performance.

Oxygen Uptake During Whole-Body-Vibration in Overweight Women

Conclusion of this study is that the addition of whole body vibration with Power Plate to both static and dynamic exercises seems to increase the oxygen  ventilation significantly in overweight women.

Whole-Body-Vibration Training in Multiple Sclerosis patients - a Pilot Study

The results in this pilot study showed that most of the MS patients maintained or improved their level of performance with a 12 week whole-body vibrating program with the Power Plate.

Effects of Whole-Body-Vibration Training on Postural Control in Older Individuals

The extensive sensory stimulation and more efficient use of the proprioceptive feedback loop caused by the Power Plate are likely to be responsible for the improvement in some aspects of balance.

Lactate Production During Training of Running Musculature on an Oscillating Platform

This study shows that by training 8 weeks, twice weekly for 15 minutes on the Power Plate, subjects were able to increase performance while keeping the increase in lactate production to a minimum.

Non Power Plate® Published Studies
Strength Increase after Whole-Body Vibration Compared with Resistance Training

This study clearly shows that strength increases after Power Plate training are not attributable to a placebo effect. The Power Plate used in this study produced vertical sinusoidal vibrations at a frequency between 35 and 40 Hz. The acceleration of the platform varied between 2.28 g and 5.09 g. In the placebo condition, the subjects who were performing the same exercises could hear the motor and experienced tingles on their foot soles, but the acceleration of the platform was only 0.4 g.  Results show that isometric and dynamic knee-extensor strength increased significantly in both the Power Plate en resistance training group, whereas the placebo and control group showed no significant increase. Jump height enhanced significantly in the Power Plate group only.
